Would you choose it again?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the good vibes on our bathroom remodel!
We’re heading down the home stretch — and for a house that's from the first half of the 1900s, we’ve only had a few surprises. I’m calling that a win.

The house is stronger now.
We found the source of the cracking floor tile, reinforced the structure, added insulation, and upgraded materials. It’s sturdier than ever — and honestly, that feels symbolic.

Watching all the new finishes and fixtures come together has been both exciting and humbling. Design decisions always feel a little abstract until they’re right there in front of you. And this time, it all works. (Shew!)

What’s most surprising, though, is how familiar it feels.

We’re not chasing trends or trying to reinvent the wheel.
We’re returning to what we’ve always loved — classic, simple lines, natural light, and a timeless farmhouse feel — but in a way that fits who we are now.

The bones are the same. The expression is just more refined.
And isn’t that what growth looks like? Not total reinvention, but deeper alignment.

Choosing again

When I think about what I wanted 27 years ago — what would make our house a home — it’s different, yet not. The essentials are the same, but we see them more clearly now.

The same thing happens in midlife and mid-career.
We realize that the goals and definitions of success that once made sense don’t fit quite the same way anymore. We’ve outgrown some of them. We’ve clarified others.

The question becomes: Would I choose this again?

For me, I saw that question first in my work. The career that once felt like a perfect fit started to pinch at the edges. The values I’d built around creativity and impact were still there — they just wanted a new shape.

And just like the remodel, I had to strip things back to the studs to rebuild on a stronger foundation.

Realigning success

Midlife invites us to refresh more than our homes. It asks us to look at the structures we’ve built — the jobs, the roles, the expectations — and decide what still feels like us.

Let’s get clear about:

  • What’s important to us — keeping our values front and center (can you name your top five? maybe even your top two?)
  • Who’s important to us — reconnecting with the people who remind us who we really are
  • How we want to contribute — clarifying the kind of impact that feels meaningful now, not ten years ago

Maybe we don’t need to start over. Maybe we just need to choose again.

Here’s to a stronger foundation — and a life that fits who you’ve become.
